From LA Times: IDW Publishing, a comics company best known for horror titles (most notably "30 Days of Night") and adaptations of movies and television shows, is going into the beltway world by publishing "Presidential Material: Barack Obama" and "Presidential Material: John McCain," a pair of graphic novels that chronicle the life of the two men who both want to be riding on Air Force One for four years.

Alea is having her first ever book giveaway for the book Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison. She's asking entrants to share the funniest book they have read this summer. Enter before August 2nd.

From Cnet: Sony one-ups Kindle by announcing on Thursday that its Reader Digital Book will be able to read electronic books published using the .epub format that many of the largest book publishers are using. Until now, Sony's e-book reader could only read books available from the Sony e-book store, PDF documents, and DRM-free text. Starting next month, the new PRS-505 Sony Reader model will be able to access secure DRM- and non-DRM-protected content in the .epub format, formerly called the Open eBook format. From the Writing Life: Beginning tomorrow, and running through August 4th, Farrar, Straus and Giroux and Macmillan Audio will be offering the audio edition of Thomas Friedman's The World Is Flat for free. Listeners will receive the audiobook in three easy-to-download sections, and soon after that, as an added bonus, will also receive an exclusive prepublication audio excerpt of Friedman's Hot, Flat, And Crowded: Why We Need A Green Revolution And How It Can Renew America. Farrar, Straus and Giroux will release the new book on September 8th.
